How to do things in Midrib. Pick a topic, or open a question.
Getting started
How do I start a project?
Press New project, give it a name, and say what you're trying to achieve. Add your draft, some papers or your reference library if you have them; Midrib uses them to find related research.
What should I put as my goal?
A sentence or two on the question you're answering, as you'd tell a classmate. Midrib compares papers against it until you add a draft of your own.
Projects and the graph
How do I read the graph?
Your paper or goal is in the center. Papers close to it and bright are strongly related; further out and dimmer, less so. Each color has a label: related, a bit off-topic, too far, not yet placed, unrelated, or not used.
Why did Midrib put a paper where it is?
Open the paper from the graph. Its window shows what it was compared with, how strong the link is, and Midrib's reasoning.
How do I move around the graph?
Drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, and use Full screen for more room. On a phone, the project page shows a preview; open it to explore.
Can I add papers myself?
Yes. On the project page, under Sources, add links, DOIs or PDFs. From Search, add a database result to any project.
My Paper
Should I write here or upload my draft?
Either. Writing here saves as you type and gets Midrib's notes beside each section. Uploading a PDF or Word file lets Midrib read a draft you've written elsewhere.
What does Citation check do?
It matches each citation in your draft against real sources, and flags any it can't find or that don't match. For claims without a citation, it suggests papers from your graph.
How do I get back to my project from the editor?
Open the File menu and choose Exit. File also has Go to, for the paper's other sections.
Where are comments and version history?
Use the comment and clock buttons beside the title, or the side panel's Comments and History tabs. To comment, select some text first.
RRL Editor
How do I start a review?
On the project page, open the RRL Editor. Pick how to organize it (theme, timeline or method), adjust the sections Midrib suggests, then press Start writing.
How do I move a paper to another section?
In the Papers tab beside the text, use Move to under the paper. Papers left out of every section are listed under Not in a section.
Can I use part of my paper in the review?
Yes. In My Paper, use Send to the RRL Editor, or in the editor choose Tools, then Send this section. It's added at the end of the review.
Account and plans
How do I change my email or password?
In Settings, under Profile or Password. Changing your email asks for your password, and takes effect once you open the link sent to the new address.
How do I add my own API key?
In Settings, under AI model, choose Your own API key, pick the provider, paste the key and press Save key. Only its last four characters are shown afterwards.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, under Delete account. Type DELETE and your password to confirm. This can't be undone.
